Orinda Orthodontics got its start in 1968 when Dr. Gerald Nelson opened our first location in South Berkeley. The original location was just a small office across the street from Alta Bates Hospital. In 1972, Dr. Michael Meyer joined him, and they began crafting a team approach to diagnosis and treatment. This team model was further enhanced when Dr. Kasrovi joined the group. The practice currently enjoys additional collaboration with Drs. Kim, Ung and Hoang. As our practice expanded our collective of doctors, we have maintained our commitment to quality and excellence.
Teaching and Community Service
Orinda Orthodontics has a strong tradition of volunteering time and resources to help members of the community who cannot afford orthodontic treatment on their own. Starting in 1972, founding partners Dr. Meyer and Dr. Nelson established a teaching clinic within La Clinica de la Raza in Oakland. Since the founding of this clinic, thousands of children have received the care they need, and our practice has developed deep ties within the community.
It has become tradition for the doctors at Orinda Orthodontics to volunteer their time at the clinic, teaching and supervising the evening clinic hours. In addition to our work at La Clinica de la Raza, our team also provides our services to other health service providers, like Children’s Hospital of Oakland.
